Marine Instruments is strongly committed to research and development in order to offer the most advanced products to its customers. The R&D department consists of two distinct technical areas which are closely related in the development process:

ICT AREA
Satellite communications monitoring and software development.
HARDWARE AREA
Creation, design and prototyping of the physical product.

Marine Instruments has a continuously growing staff, of which approximately 30% are engineers working in R&D. Thanks to the close relationship we have with our clients we are constantly aware of the changing needs of the market and we work on developing new solutions to meet them.

In addition, Marine Instruments provides tailored-made products to customer’s specifications for different areas of application: scientific research, oceanographic, rescue, etc.

The R&D department is a major competitive advantage for Marine Instruments. Thanks to the work developed by this area, Marine Instruments products are nowadays leaders in the international market.

PROJECTS
SONODECT PROJECT - High precision sonar technology
This project has been financed by the European Regional Development Fund FEDER, through the Multiregional Orientative Program for Smart Growth 2014-2020
Objectives and results
The general objective of the project was to develop new hydroacoustic detection and signal treatment technologies. It has been possible to develop a detection buoy that can integrate multiple transducers that together allow a 360º and high resolution underwater "vision", and a simple and understandable display interface of the captured hydroacoustic data has been developed, allowing also the most accurate study of the biomass existing in the object.
TUNAMONITOR PROJECT- Fishing monitoring technologies

Objectives and results
The general objective of the project was to develop new technologies for monitoring and controlling fishing operations onboard tuna purse seiners. It has been possible to develop a solution with multiple high-resolution cameras, which automatically capture encrypted images of onboard fishing operations, which can be a real and cost-effective alternative to human observers.
XDRONE PROJECT -New technologies for unmanned vehicles for fishing

Objectives and results
The objective of the project was to develop new complementary technologies for fishing, based on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). Within the framework of the project, it has been possible to develop a navigable device that is capable of stably navigating more than 2 knots autonomously for weeks, capturing information on the presence of fish, temperature, etc. On the other hand, it has been possible to develop an autonomous solar drone, capable of flying at 25 knots for hours, transmitting high-resolution images of schools of fish to the vessel. These innovative technologies will make fishing activities more selective and minimize their impact on the environment.
OCEANVIEW PROJECT - New advanced information technologies for fishing

Objectives and results
The objective of the project was to develop new complementary technologies for fishing, based on the visualization and interpretation of oceanographic data, through the development of a new type of interface (console) HMI, for the control of data visualization, through the development of a system to manage and visualize oceanographic data from various sources.
MARINE SMART FEEDER PROJECT - New feeding technologies for aquaculture

Objectives and results
The objective of the project was to develop an automatic feeder for shrimp aquaculture. It has been possible to develop a feeder that has an autonomous power generation system, a control system, a communication system, geolocation and different hydroacoustic, temperature and oxygen sensors.
MI OCEAN DATA PROJECT-Development of new management technologies and integration of fishing data
This project has been financed by the European Regional Development Fund FEDER, through the Multiregional Orientative Program for Smart Growth 2014-2020
Objectives and results
The objective of the project was to develop new technologies for the acquisition, processing and advanced interpretation of oceanographic data for fisheries, at the level of prediction of movements of FAD’s (Fish Aggregating Devices), and improvement in data transmission algorithms.
PROJECT MINN OCEAN- New artificial intelligence technologies "Machine Learning" to improve decision-making during fishing operations with FADs

Objectives and results
The objective of the project was to develop new technologies, the artificial intelligence algorithms that will be applied to generate recommendations for the interpretation of the data of hydroacoustic probes of the fishing buoys with FADs (Fish Aggregating Devices).
