MARINE INSTRUMENTS AND FURUNO SIGN AN AGREEMENT FOR KNOW-HOW SHARING AND PRODUCT DISTRIBUTION

Marine Instruments, a technology company specialising in digital oceans and sustainable fishing, has reached an agreement to strengthen its collaboration in both know-how and product marketing with Furuno Electric Co., Ltd., a Japanese company that is a world leader in marine acoustics and widely known in the fishing sector for its systems based on sonar technology or its radars, among others.
In this way, Furuno will become the official distributor of Marine Instruments services in the Japanese tuna market. The collaboration agreement has been formalized with the signature of Iñaki Arbulu, MD & CEO of Grupo Arbulu and Kiyoshi Furuno, Executive Officer of Furuno Electric Co., Ltd..
Marine Instruments, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2023, is a world leader in the development and manufacture of technology for the fishing sector and its products are distributed in more than 30 countries worldwide. Marine Instruments belongs to the Arbulu Group, one of the largest groups specialising in marine electronics and satellite communications in the world.
This agreement represents for both Marine Instruments and Furuno, a further step in the long history of collaboration initiated by Grupo Arbulu more than 50 years ago, when the latter, through its company Nautical, became the distributor for Spain of the Japanese company’s products. Thus, the constant support, experience and shared learning between the two companies continues over time, with the aim of developing knowledge-based technologies capable of transforming traditional sectors such as the fishing industry.
For Iñaki Arbulu, “this agreement means continuing to rely on the reliability and guarantee offered by a company as solid and internationally recognised as Furuno”. For Kiyoshi Furuno, “it is the result of a relationship of trust that began decades ago and which combines the strengths of both companies to offer high quality solutions to the tuna sector”.
Innovative solutions for the marine ecosystem
Marine Instruments has experienced steady growth during this time, positioning itself as the world’s leading manufacturer of satellite tuna buoys. It currently markets the M3iGO, the first buoy on the market with Artificial Intelligence deployed in all three oceans and with bi-frequency probes, allowing it to accurately identify the amount of commercial fish below.
As part of its strong diversification strategy, the technology company is designing innovative products for other vertical markets, such as Aquaculture with its own intelligent feeding system, the Marine Acoustic Smart System (MASS), or Security and Defence, with the M5D-Airfox, a fixed-wing solar drone that performs highly effective military surveillance and tracking missions.
Furuno is a Japanese manufacturer and supplier specialising in the commercialisation of marine acoustic and electronic solutions. Its products include radar and sonar systems, navigation instruments and fish finders.
The company was founded in 1938 by Kiyotaka Furuno to market fish finders, then the company diversified its production to address all the electronic needs of any vessel. Today, Furuno is a world market leader in developing integrated solutions for strategic decision making and optimising navigation and fishing.
